If there is one thing that will absolutely guarantee I click on a Nollywood movie, it’s seeing the legendary Patience Ozokwor (our beloved Mama G) cast as a difficult, controlling woman! Her 2026 release, Susana, pairs her with the incredibly talented Ekene Umenwa and the ever-charming Onny Michael. It is the perfect blend of emotional village drama, hilarious comedic moments, and that classic Nollywood "wahala" we just can't get enough of!

First Impression

Right from the opening scenes, the movie sets up a very relatable and tense dynamic. You immediately feel for the hardworking village girl who is entirely misunderstood by the people around her. And the moment Patience Ozokwor steps onto the screen, you just know that nobody is going to have a single moment of peace! The film does a fantastic job of establishing the heavy class differences and the suffocating control of a mother who simply will not let her son make his own choices.

Story Overview

Without giving away all the spicy spoilers, Susana centers around Nkeonye (Ekene Umenwa), a girl with a genuinely good heart who is constantly mocked, judged, and even labeled a "lunatic" by the villagers. She works for Susanna (Patience Ozokwor), an incredibly difficult and manipulative woman. However, the real chaos begins when Susanna’s son, Obinna (Onny Michael), falls in love with Nkeonye. Susanna’s dangerous obsession with controlling her son's love life turns the entire household upside down. It’s a beautiful, chaotic story about surviving emotional heartbreak, fighting societal judgment, and proving your worth.

Acting Performance

Patience Ozokwor is an absolute powerhouse here. Nobody plays a wicked, overbearing mother better than her; she delivers her harsh lines so effortlessly that you will find yourself shouting at your screen! Ekene Umenwa proves yet again how versatile she is. Moving away from just her popular comedy skits, she delivers a deeply emotional, tear-jerking performance as the misunderstood Nkeonye. Onny Michael provides the perfect balance as the conflicted but loving Obinna, standing his ground against his mother’s manipulation.

Production Quality

Directed by Darrlington Ogbodo and produced by Ekene Umenwa, the production quality is absolutely spot-on for a 2026 Nollywood village drama. The rural setting is authentic, capturing both the beauty of village life and the harshness of its societal gossip. The audio is crisp, ensuring that every single one of Patience Ozokwor’s sarcastic, biting remarks lands with maximum impact!

What I Liked

  • The nostalgic return of Patience Ozokwor doing what she does best—bringing absolute fire and drama to a household!
  • Ekene Umenwa’s incredibly moving portrayal of a misunderstood, hardworking girl fighting for her dignity.
  • The undeniable chemistry and forbidden romance between Nkeonye and Obinna.
  • The perfect balance of emotional survival struggles mixed with organic comedic moments.

What Could Have Been Better

  • Some of the villagers' insults toward Nkeonye felt a little repetitive in the first half of the movie.
  • I would have loved an even longer, more dramatic final showdown between Susanna and Nkeonye when the truth finally comes out!

Overall Thoughts

I genuinely had a fantastic time watching Susana. It is a highly entertaining, emotionally gripping movie that highlights the struggles of class differences and toxic family dynamics. Seeing Patience Ozokwor dominate the screen again alongside a rising powerhouse like Ekene Umenwa is a treat. If you love classic Nollywood stories where true love has to fight against wicked mothers and societal judgment, you absolutely need to add this to your watchlist!

My Rating: 4.5⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Final Verdict

Susana is a brilliant blend of classic Nollywood family drama and modern emotional storytelling. It delivers premium entertainment, heartbreak, and highly satisfying vindication!
